Tasmanian Oak Shadow Box Frame

A highly imaginative and evocative still life. Created after a series of pencil drawings were translated into colour, depicting a metaphor for a life no longer travelling along in a single track. The pretty flowers outside the gilded cage, finally wilting as the static outlook no longer satisfies and the outer world beckons.

The cage is flung open and all that remains of the occupant, a single delicate feather. This painting was snapped up from a local exhibition before it opened and is now in the hands of a local collector. Di is planning a series of similar work on the success of this beautiful painting.

Di Dixon Art

Di Dixon is an Australian artist based in the Southern Highlands. Her work centres on landscape and still life, exploring atmosphere, form, and the subtle emotional pull of place.

Working primarily with muted palettes and layered textures, Di’s paintings invite slow looking. Each piece is shaped by observation rather than urgency — capturing moments of calm, distance, and quiet familiarity drawn from the surrounding environment.

Her practice reflects a balance between structure and intuition, resulting in works that feel both grounded and gently expressive.
