Art, Home and Heart – Stories from the Walls of the Highlands

One of my greatest joys is seeing a painting leave the studio and find its home. Just as I’ve watched buyers step over a threshold and instantly know “this is it”, I’ve also seen people stand in front of a painting and fall silently, unmistakably in love.
It has always fascinated me how different pieces of art speak to individuals, differently. Why they chose it, that decision can be triggered by something as simple as, it works for the space they have at home, they like the colours, or it captures memories for them of the Southern Highlands or other parts of the country and the world.

For me, that is the true purpose of my work. I don’t paint just to put something pretty on the wall. I paint from pure love and energy and if the result gives people a way to see their own journey, their memories, their sense of belonging – in that work, every day, that’s a happy day. When a collector writes or calls to tell me that they still pause and smile every time they walk past a piece of mine, years after hanging it, that is as exciting as it gets.
